The MLK Center cannot fulfill our mission without volunteers like you.

The best way to learn about how we are changing lives is to attend a tour and learn about ways to get involved.

We have the following volunteer opportunties available:

  • Be an Abassador:  Ambassadors are short-term volunteers who open doors for our organization in the community, introducing new people by hosting a private Building Tour.  Reach out to Sarah@MLKCenterIndy.org to get scheduled.
  • After School with elementary students:  Volunteers are needed Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 4:30 to 5:30 after school in our Read to Lead program.  Read to children, listen to them read to you, and run skills games in small groups.  All materials and a short training are provided.  No experience necessary.
  • After School with middle school and high school students:  Best Buy Teen Tech Center is open every week day from 4:30 to 7:00 for middle school students.  Come teach them your favorite hobby or technology skill, or let them teach you!  We have needs in the areas of music production, graphic design, photography, videography, sewing and much more.
  • Governance & Other Board Activity:  Our Board of Directors meets six times per year and is comprised of individuals who care about the work of the MLK Center and ensure we can serve the community for another 50 years.  Community members can also join one of our working committees.
  • Other Ideas:  Do you have an idea for a special project or group activity?  Contact us today.

Adult volunteers working with children on a regular basis must obtain a Limited Criminal History Search with the Indiana State Police, online here. The cost is $16.00.  Scholarships are available.
Not every charge prohibits you from volunteering.  Please email Sarah@MLKCenterIndy.org if you have questions.
