Get Involved

How do you become a member of the Beloved Community?

It starts with a tour. When you walk through our doors for the first time, don’t be surprised if you’re greeted like a regular. Our community thrives on the buzzing intensity of new people finding their calling to serve. That call may involve financial support, but we make every effort to help you identify opportunities to become a hands-on collaborator. No matter your strengths or passions, there’s something for you here. And the benefits of volunteering go both ways. We think of ourselves as a vital meeting place where resources get redistributed, yes; but also where bubbles get popped, misconceptions corrected, and culture transmitted.

Donate

Your giving goes farther here. Because we take an integrated approach to serving the whole person, your donations are not limited to a single area of need. We have programs for youth literacy, adult literacy, job training, emotional wellness, and community development.

Volunteer

Volunteer your time and become a collaborator. We are looking for compassionate affiliates from all walks of life, with a range of professional and personal interests, who want to take active steps to address inequality. Like every member of our community, collaborators help fulfill our mission to educate, console, sustain, and celebrate.

Founders Breakfast

Held annually in January in celebration of Dr. King’s birthday, the Founders Breakfast is an opportunity to develop relationships through connecting the past, present, and future of the center. In sharing a meal, we commemorate the longstanding traditions of generosity and giving that have been a hallmark of working in the Tarkington neighborhood. Guests are treated to living accounts of neighborhood history and oratory from our youth groups.
